The MVP IV is a
mechanically operated, controller-less, air lift pump used in 4
in. (10.2cm) diameter and larger wells. It is designed to
transfer fluids to the surface from depths of up to 200 ft. (61
m). The pump is available in top or bottom loading
configurations, allowing it to be used for pumping total fluids,
dissolved phase, DNAPL and leachate. The MVP IV has a pumping
capacity of up to 13 gpm (49.2 L/min).
Description
The MVP IV Pump System includes:
- MVP IV Pump
- Well Clincher (well cap)
- Air Particulate Filter Regulator
The MVP IV Pump uses an internal float that responds to the
fluid level within the pump body, automatically cycling the
pump. As the pump fills with fluid, the float moves to the upper
position activating the mechanical arm which opens the air inlet
valve. The air enters the pump chamber, simultaneously
pressurizing the vessel and closing the upper and lower fluid
inlet check valves. The air pressure pushes the fluid through
the 3/4 in. (19 mm) discharge line to the surface. As the fluid
is emptied from the vessel, the float returns to the lower limit
position simultaneously closing the air inlet and opening the
air exhaust valve. The volume of air used to move the fluid is
then exhausted either in the well or through the well clincher
at the surface. This cycle is automatically repeated depending
on the recharge rate of the fluid being pumped.
 Mechanical
advantage is provided as the air inlet and air exhaust
valves are incorporated on the same side of the pump. This
provides seven times the mechanical leverage that would be
available with the valves located on opposite sides of the pump
head. This results in a positive valve shift, eliminating pump
stalling. Also, it permits the use of larger, simpler air and
exhaust valves which eliminate air quality concerns.
An
Override Feature in the MVP IV pump allows it to be
cycled from the surface. This can be used to empty the pump and
hoses prior to removing them from the well and is especially
convenient when removing the pump from deep well installations.
An additional 1/4 in. air line is required.
Stainless Steel Pump Body - is standard and offers
superior chemical resistance and durability.
Fiberglass Body - Optional, a fiberglass body
can be substituted to reduce the overall weight of the pump.
Syntactic Float - Standard, The syntactic float
material combines an epoxy with a micro bubble glass resin to
provide a durable material that is chemically compatible with
the types of fluids encountered in most applications.
Stainless Steel Float - Optional, when the MVP
IV pump is used in field conditions that require an all
stainless steel pump for chemical compatibility.
Short Pump Lengths - Depending on your specific
site requirements, the MVP IV pump can be can be shortened up to
5 inches to allow for shallow water conditions. The bottom
loading MVP IV pumps can achieve a minimum draw down of 18
inches by installing a stop fitting on the control rod.
Shallow Water Pump - The pump body and internal
mechanisms are customized to allow the pump to be used to
maintain a total fluid draw down in shallow wells with as little
as 11.5 to 14 inches of water*.
*(bottom Loading pumps)
Complete access to all the internal components of the pump is
provided with the thread-together design. The pump head can be
easily removed should access to the air inlet and exhaust valves
be needed.
Loading Configurations
The MVP IV pump design allows the loading configurations to
be easily changed to match site requirements. The top inlet port
is machined into the head of every MVP IV pump, and two bottom
assemblies - a solid bottom or a bottom inlet assembly - can be
used to achieve the desired pump configuration.
